Other league teams
The Bees first team return to National Three North for the new campaign. After a single season in the slightly rarer atmosphere of National Two in the 2006/07, the Bees will be looking to be a presence in a league which won with some style a year earlier. The squad has been bolstered by a number of new signings and the core of the squad which has played together for the last three or four seasons remains. The adventure at that higher level was probably just a stretch too far for the club where the epic journeys to the far flung corners of Cornwall would normally signal a family holiday for players and officials, not a day trip which also included a National Division Two fixture. Entry for first XV games at Wagon Lane is £8.00 for non-members, £6.00 for members and free to Under 18s.
The Bees second string, The Barbarians, play their rugby in two different Merit Tables, with their toughest fixtures coming from the NCA Northern Reserve. The side do have a social slant to them and do know how to party, but also take pride in their fitness and attendance record at training. The side is for those who might aspire, but are willing to perspire in earning a Barbarian Shirt.
As a stepping stone up from the Junior Ranks or as a place to play the game for fun, The Bees Tigers are striving to establish a balance between the needs of a fit and keen teenager and the slightly more relaxed thirty-something. The success on the field that has been growing over the last two seasons suggests that the mix is becoming more potent.
The most gifted and talented over somethings to have ever graced the pastures of Wagon Lane! Our Vets, with their proud motto 'I'm not dead yet' - are prepared to take on any opposition willing to Ruck and Maul till they drop. This desire belies there comfortable waist lines, knobbly knees and general bad health. There is still the need to show that they still have what it takes.....whatever "it" may be. The Bees serious Social side, the Vets, are our champions of yesterday ready to thrill you today
